Since the new law has passed regarding vacation rentals, tax and zoning, we may see a change in rentals. Some vacation rentals will need to apply for a variance to keep the short term rental or change to a long term status. Many current vacation rentals are not in the correct zoning and will be fined if they continue after the deadline in September. As many of us in Kona already know is that we are short of long term rentals. What is hard to say to people is when the property is not pet friendly, a lot of times is because condo projects are not allowing it or owners have had previous bad experience with a pet owner and damage done to there unit. My advice to renters with a pet is to look into pet insurance (yes it is a thing) and show it up front when you apply as it will cover some damage and prove you care enough about your pet to rent and care for someone else’s rental.
May showers bring flowers and a good cleaning to surrounding areas. But I recommend keeping on top of yard work and spraying for insects as the rain will bring the critters out and possibly inside your property.
